Central Station do Corrie 
Central Station Design launched their new exhibition, Central Station Paint Coronation Street Part 1, with a star-studded party at the Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester.

Joining the Central Station team to celebrate were Anna Kirkbridge ("Deirdre Barlow"), William Roache ("Ken Barlow"), Michael Le Vell ("Kevin Webster"), Tom Bloxham, Sam Allardyce, Matt Greenhalgh, Ron Wood, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Neville Neville, Kevin Cummins, Kieran Roberts (Coronation St Executive Producer) and many others.

Central Station Paint Coronation Street Part 1 continues at the Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester until Saturday 15 January.

John Cooper Clarke live @ The Scala 19 Dec 
John Cooper Clarke (no relation) makes a welcome return to London with a gig at the Scala in London's King's Cross this Sunday 19 December 2010 on the back of his latest jaunt around the country.

Trevor Johnson has designed some Johnny Clarke t-shirts and these are set to be on sale on the night.

Support comes from Ronnie Golden and tickets priced £17.50 (adv) from TicketWeb. Doors open at 7pm.

The Railway Children Rarities #2 Live 
A new collection of live recordings by The Railway Children is out now on download from Ether Records via www.railwaychildren.co.uk.

"Rarities #2 is a 10 song album, featuring live recordings from the period just before the release of Recurrence in '88. Available only from this site, via download, it includes three previously un-released tracks: Twirl, Step Aside and Different Animals. Note that the recordings have been digitally restored from cassette, so sound quality varies somewhat."

Rarities #1 (2007) is still available.

The Durutti Column live at Bridgewater Hall 
A brand new 30 April 2011 date is announced at Manchester's prestigious Bridgewater Hall by The Durutti Column.

The first 200 bookers of top price (£29.00) tickets through the Box Office will be entitled to a free copy of The Durutti Column's new album which will be released to coincide with the gig. This is a special one-off homecoming gig to launch their forthcoming new album, which will be given its world premiere at this show. Kevin Cummins Somerset House book signing 
A selection of Kevin Cummins's photographs of Joy Division are on display at the Great Arch in the South Wing of Somerset House in London until 13 January 2011.

To celebrate this and the publication of his Joy Division book, Kevin will be signing copies in the Somerset House Great Arch exhibition space Monday 13 December at 12.30.

ACR for Friends of Mine Festival 2011 
A Certain Ratio, The Charlatans, Aziz Ibrahim plus DJs Dave Haslam, Stephen Morris, Martin Moscrop, Tim Burgess and Mike Joyce are the highlights of the line-up for the Friends of Mine Festival 2011 which takes place on the weekend of 21-22 May at Capesthorne Hall, 14 miles south of Manchester.

We walked in the cold air 
There's just two more opportunities to catch Section 25 live this year. First, the band fly to Vienna in Austria for their headline show at the Rhiz this Sunday 5 December (as reported by the local Der Standard - in German).

Second, it's back closer to home for the final gig of the year at the Beat Club in Blackpool where support will come from Kevin Hewick.

The Names

Post punk cult band The Names emerged in the winter of 1977-1978 as The Passengers, gathering immediate attention on the local Brussels scene. In 1979, after a series of successful gigs and a crucial step forward opening for Magazine, they recorded their first E.P. ("Spectators Of Life") and attracted the interest of prominent label Factory Records in Manchester.

Their first British studio session (at Stockport's Strawberry Studio) produced the single "Nightshift" / "I Wish I Could Speak Your Language (Fac 29). Receiving enthusiastic reviews in the UK and abroad, it marked the start of a long and fruitful collaboration with producer Martin Hannett. The album "Swimming" followed as well as more singles, including "Calcutta" and "The Astronaut".
